In 2015, the ACI Board of Direction recognized the Institute’s need for a more defined roadmap for a successful future. With that came the ACI Outlook 2030 report and the ACI Operations Plan. These two documents contain detailed goals and recommendations based on megatrends and external driving forces to ensure a vital and healthy Institute. The Outlook 2030 report contains nine recommendations, one of which states, “Change ACI’s information flow from passive to active; create opportunities for online products and guides; empower staff to create more products derived from ACI code and committee documents.” With that recommendation in mind, ACI staff built the entirely new ACI PLUS document delivery platform featuring a new annual subscription: ACI 318 PLUS. This new subscription provides users with convenient digital interactive access to ACI CODE-318-19 along with in-document access to related resources and enhanced digital search features through all code provisions and commentary. As you know, ACI has produced tens of thousands of pages of information related to concrete and its uses. And each year, the Institute continues to develop additional content. This information is included in ACI codes, specifications, practices, symposium volumes, periodical issues, and educational publications. This knowledge is also delivered through webinars, on-demand courses, and recorded Convention session presentations. While this most certainly makes ACI one of the leading sources for concrete-related knowledge, it can make finding and accessing the right information challenging. This is why we created the ACI PLUS platform. The platform allows users to quickly and easily access various ACI content by making digital links between the Institute’s content and related topics. The ACI 318 PLUS subscription includes full digital interactive access to two other documents located on the ACI PLUS platform: the new ACI Detailing Manual and the numerous design examples in the new ACI Reinforced Concrete Design Handbook. Subscribers can also navigate content by section, by chapter, and/or by provision. The ACI 318 PLUS platform features three-dimensional graphics, all commentary references from ACI resources, and FAQs. One of the more notable features built into the ACI PLUS platform is the robust user notes functionality. This functionality allows subscribers to create a set of custom provision-linked notes for any/all provisions of ACI 318 and the other documents on the ACI PLUS platform. Notes are created and edited in an innovative editor that includes an advanced formula builder with the ability to include links to external images and content. Subscribers can create up to 10 unique sets of user notes, share notes sets with other ACI 318 PLUS subscribers, and control who has access to each notes set at any given time. While we see the ACI 318 PLUS platform becoming a regular fixture in every ACI 318 user’s life, we also see it becoming an especially valuable tool for professors and educators teaching with ACI 318 in the classroom. The platform will allow professors and students to view and share digital notes and the additional resources within the platform. Many additional resources linked throughout ACI 318 PLUS are available free to ACI members, including: Related articles from Concrete International magazine; Related articles from the ACI Materials Journal; Related articles from the ACI Structural Journal; ACI University on-demand courses covering code provisions and related topics; Referenced ACI guides, reports, and TechNotes; and Related articles from ACI symposium volumes. We officially launched ACI 318 PLUS on March 1, 2021. The platform is currently available for both ACI members and the public at large. Anyone who has purchased or plans to purchase an ACI CODE-318-19 will be given free access to the platform for the first year. To learn more or subscribe, visit www.concrete.org/ACI318. The Institute’s goal is to continually update ACI 318 PLUS with new content and related products. While ACI 318 is the first document to be populated on this platform, it certainly won’t be the last.
