Position Statements
Official positions taken by the ACI Board of Direction in support of the Institute’s mission.
Encourage the adoption and/or use of current building codes and standards.
Encourage the adoption and use of ACI products, including but not limited to codes and standards without modification.
Support acceptance of sampling, testing, inspection, and installation of concrete and related products and materials; and encourage the use of certification programs developed and administered by professional societies in lieu of programs developed and administered by other entities; and support mandates or otherwise place preference on accreditation of individuals and entities engaged in providing services related to concrete and concrete products.
Support research, technological advancements, and dissemination of concrete technology; and channel through, directed to, or otherwise engage ACI and/or the ACI Foundation.
Encourage or establish criteria related to enhancing the resilience of the built environment; and where appropriate, engage ACI and/or the ACI Foundation to facilitate programs and activities related to the role of concrete technology in achieving enhanced resilience.
Encourage or establish criteria related to enhancing the sustainability of the built environment; and where appropriate, engage ACI and/or the ACI Foundation to facilitate programs and activities related the role of concrete technology in achieving enhanced sustainability.
Encourage and place preference on programs and services developed by professional societies and encourage the use of ACI programs and services where related to the advancement of concrete technology.
Encourage new standards related to concrete technology be developed through ACI, or otherwise involve ACI in the development process.
Encourage the dissemination of concrete technology and acceptance and adoption of ACI codes and related materials through ACI chapters.
Supports a favorable environment for ACI members and businesses, allows support or endorsement of programs like ASCE Fly-in and other Capitol Hill events that increase the awareness and outreach for ACI, and aligns advocacy efforts with those of like-minded organizations.
Allows emphasis on ACI committees that develop code requirements as service to the public, consistent with the intent provided in the Technical Committee Manual. This position statement also supports differentiation the mission and objectives of ACI as a professional society from those of product and trade associations.
Place preference on ACI education and credentialing programs while supporting existing and increased acceptance and use of certification programs.
Encourage and establish criteria related to enhancing the carbon neutrality of the built environment, and where appropriate, engage ACI and/or its subsidiaries to develop and facilitate programs and activities related to reaching the goal of carbon neutrality in concrete construction.
Encourage colleges and universities with civil, architectural, or structural engineering curricula to retain or include material and structural courses on design and code compliance in accordance with recognized consensus-based standards developed by accredited standards development organizations.

Be it further resolved that: ACI staff and leadership are empowered to encourage and support the inclusion of concrete design and code compliance courses based on ACI 318 Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete and other relevant ACI code requirements.
