As part of the popular ACI Chapter Talks Program, ACI Kuwait Chapter recently held a webinar titled “ACI 562-19, Code Requirements for Assessment, Repair, and Rehabilitation of Existing Concrete Structures and Commentary.” The webinar was presented by Dr. Khaled Nahlawi, Distinguished Senior Engineer at the American Concrete Institute, and moderated by Dr. Moetaz El-Hawary, ACI Kuwait Chapter Vice President and Chairperson of the Technical Committee. ACI 562 is the first U.S. code produced specifically for the repair of reinforced concrete. A new guide document for the code with additional information and project examples that help users interpret the code requirements were also highlighted. Topics covered in this presentation included: Why a repair code is needed The philosophy behind ACI 562 How the code promotes consistency in repair design Recognizing repair construction challenges Significance of a quality assurance program for successful repairs How the code can save the owner money The webinar was attended by 79 engineers – 41 from Kuwait. The webinar attracted an audience from diverse countries including USA, UK, Saudi Arabia, India, UAE, Lebanon, Peru, Bangladesh, Ecuador, Bolivia, Turkey, Guatemala, and Colombia. The webinar gave ACI-Kuwait Chapter the opportunity to add to its technical program that was temporary halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and gave Kuwait Chapter members and others the chance to learn more about the benefits of the ACI 562 code.
