ACI President Michael Schneider (pictured center) with ACI National Capital Chapter Officers The ACI National Capital Chapter welcomed ACI President Michael Schneider to their inaugural monthly meeting on September 14, 2016 at the Crowne Plaza Tysons in McLean, VA, USA. A total of 85 attendees participated in the dinner meeting including 25 students from the engineering department at Howard University. Prior to the dinner, Schneider joined the chapter’s leadership team for a board meeting. “He was very supportive during the meeting and he communicated with us in such a heartfelt way. His passion and belief in ACI chapters was very tangible,” explains Beth Britt, Executive Director for both the ACI National Capital and Arizona chapters. Schneider delivered a keynote presentation on the construction of the Patricia & Phillip Frost Museum of Science in Miami, Florida. Baker Concrete Construction, where Schneider serves as Senior Vice President and Chief People Officer, was the general contractor on the project. The Frost Museum presented many challenges to the concrete construction process. The precise science, engineering and art of concrete was a critical and interesting part of the building process. The museum has four separate buildings and each level is a different size, shape and height. Since 1971, the National Capital Chapter has hosted monthly meetings, social events and ACI certification programs for members living in Washington, D.C. and its surrounding counties. The Chapter is currently led by William Lyons, III, FACI, National Business Development Manager with Euclid Chemical Company. The chapter will host its Annual Exposing Excellence in Concrete Awards Dinner on November 16, 2016. Learn more about ACI Chapters. Patricia & Phillip Frost Museum of Science in Miami, FL, USA
