Description

This is a recorded webinar from July 13, 2021.

In the 2019 edition of the ACI 318 Building Code numerous revisions have been made to the seismic design provisions of Chapter 18. These revisions, which were based on new research findings and lessons learned from recent earthquakes, will significantly affect the design and detailing of some elements of reinforced concrete seismic force-resisting systems. In particular, very consequential changes have been made to the design and detailing rules for special reinforced concrete shear walls. Provisions for special moment frames, precast concrete diaphragms, and elements that are not part of the seismic force-resisting system have also been affected. A new definition for ductile coupled shear walls has been introduced. Higher grades of reinforcement are now permitted for certain seismic force-resisting elements, compared to previous editions of ACI 318. This webinar will provide an overview of these and other changes, as well as background on why the changes were adopted in ACI 318-19.
