The main objective of this course is to present results from recent research studies (experimental/numerical/analytical) and field examples. In this course, engineers and researchers share and discuss various issues related to design and construction issues of RC columns under extreme events. The presentations in this course describe the performance of reinforced concrete columns for buildings or bridges during extreme events such as earthquake, tsunami, vehicular impact, corrosion, high temperature differential, freezing-and-thawing cycles, and ice load impact. Challenges from inspection to design and constructions will be discussed and possible solutions to improve their performance will be debated
