Abstract: A method of simplifying ultimate flexural analysis is described. The stress block is defined by a method of maximizing the moment of the stress block about the neutral axis. Three separate stress functions are used to describe the stress in the concrete. The calculated type of failure and the ultimate moment are compared with results of reinforced concrete beam tests.
