Abstract:
Reviews the kinds of problems that develop when improper or inadequate joint sealing practices are used on bridges. Describes the many things to be considered when selecting a sealing system and shows how the trend to longer bridge spans require consideration of compression seals. A brief review is given of practices in North America and Europe and several types of newly-developed compression seal systems are illustrated.
