Abstract:
Presents methods for calculating the ultimate strength of a shear wall and its deflection in the elastic and plastic or cracked condition based on tests of concrete beams. Discusses the use of concrete shear walls for lateral bracing against seismic forces and the requirements for lateral load distribution to bracing elements. Presents a method for eliminating the effects of foundation yielding on lateral load distribution.
