Abstract:
The responses of a reinforced concrete section to three biaxial curvature histories simulating earthquake motions are computed and examined with particular reference to stiffness, moment capacity, and energy dissipation charac-teristics. The implication of the adverse effects of cyclic biaxial bending on these properties is that required ductilities under earthquake loading are likely to be substantially larger than those expected on the basis of uniaxial bending behavior.
