Abstract:This paper provides an overview of building regulations applied to rehabilitation. Covered are constraints due to regula-tion, technical activities to improve regulations, and research needed to effectively use the existing building stock. Progress has recently been made toward removal of regulatory constraints. Many technical problems remain to be solved through research which needs support from both the public and private sectors. The analysis of numerous studies indicates a strong need for technical evaluation techniques to assist decision making for building rehabilitation.
