Abstract:
The bridge across the river Suir at Waterford (Ireland) is a cable-stayed bridge with 465 m total length, a 230 m long main span and a single pylon. This bridge has a number of characteristics which make it singular: the use of high capacity micropiles in the foundations, an inverted Y-shaped pylon without any transverse beam at deck's level, the anchorage of the cables at the pylon by means of an internal steel structure, its composite deck which consists of a steel ladder shaped structure with two or four edge beams and cross beams and of precast ribbed concrete slabs, the variable width of the deck or the fact that there is only one expansion joint at one of the abutments, since the bridge is integral with the other abutment.
