Abstract:
This article describes the singularities of the hanged structure of the building ? Parc de Recerca Biomèdica? in Barcelona. Over the ground level, the building is made up of 9 elliptic concentrically slabs, which are reduced with the height, creating a truncated cone cut by the inclined roof in the sea direction. The outside of the building is hanged by 69 steal ties, hinged in each slab, while the inside is supported by some lines of vertical ties. The inclined outside hanging of the building forced to propose a constructive process with temporary supported slabs during the execution period, until the superior resistant structure was finished, so as to proceed with the hang of the slabs. For the joint of the outside ties with the slabs it has been used a metallic ?hanging cantilevers?, placed below the slabs, which are prestressed with High Strength Bolts. The Torque Control Method applied to the bolts has been guarantied with the Direct Tension Indicator Method.
