Abstract:
Different grinding methods and its influence on expansions measured by ASTM C-1260 are evaluated. Modes and particle shape obtained in two types of crushing equipment, a jaw crusher and a hammer mill are analyzed. Through macro and micro observations and additional testing, it can be established that the comminution procedure influence the expansion measures. Results shown in this paper suggest that the grinding method (hammer crushing) should be specified to obtain traceable results in interlaboratory testing, as well as measuring the maximum expansion to quantify the degree of reactivity of aggregates.
