Abstract:
Describes the evaluation and rehabilitation of a relatively new rooftop parking slab on a large office building, which had experienced surface deterioration due largely to subsurface drainage between the concrete and the roof-insulation layer. The new system involved replacing all roof insulation, then placing a geocomposite drainage system consisting of a geotextile filter, bond-breaker fabric, and a geonet drainage layer, before repaving. The project was completed within 4 months, and included replacing over 160,000 ftý of unbonded roof slab. The system is performing satisfactorily after 5 yr of service, with no reports of operation or maintenance problems.
