Abstract:
It is generally understood that there are three essential constitutents in Portland cement, namely: lime, alumina, and silica. It has been shown experimentally that the lime can be entirely replaced by strontium or barium, the alumina in part by iron or chromium oxide, and hydraulic materials of considerable value be obtained; but none of these have been suggested as being of commerical value with the exception of iron oxide.
