Abstract:
The strutted box widening method (SBWM) allows a two-lane segmental bridge (or other concrete box girder bridges) to be designed and constructed so that it can be widened easily into a three- or four-lane bridge at any time. In this article, two elevated median-based expressways and a major long-span crossing have been evaluated the advantages of designing them using SBWM. SBWM can be used on these types of structures to increase traffic capacity in the future.
