Abstract:
Traces fifty years of development in building code requirements of reinforced concrete to provide present users of the ACI Building Code with background information on the evolution of many provisons dealing with design of principal structural elements of a reinforced concrete building. Starting with the formation of the first Joint Committee on Reinforced Concrete in 1904, research and design development and philsophy are reviewed - which culminated in the present ACI Building Code.
