Abstract:
Basic principles underlying the behavior of statically indeterminate prestressed concrete structures were investigated by testing four continuous beams, each 50 ft long. The cracking and ultimate strengths of these beams were measured and evaluated for static loads as well as for repeated loads up to 5,000,OOO cycles. Beam reactions, deflections, and strains were recorded for analysis. The effects of adding nonprestressed mild steel reinforcement were studied.
