Abstract:
This document reports a survey carried out in June 1969 in Canada and the United States of procedures for the acceptance of electronic computer calculations by building officials. The results of the survey analyzed include the replies from 40 cities in the United States and 11 cities in Canada. It has been noted that two cities have adopted rules for the acceptance of computer programs, Los Angeles and San Diego, with San Francisco to follow suit in the near future. The procedure of the city of Toronto in submitting all major designs to independent checking using their own computer programs is unique.
