Abstract:A general form of the serpentine curve is proposed to represent the complete stress-strain relationship of plain concrete in compression. The parameters that define the relationship are physically significant and can be estimated from empirical relationships or determined experimentally. Proposed equations fit a wide range of testing conditions and concretes for both the ascending and descending branches of the stress-strain diagram in compression. The conditions that should meet with an equation representing the stress-strain relationship and the effects of the testing conditions on the relationship are also discussed.
