Abstract:
In the north of Cologne (Germany). a suspension bridge across the River Rhine has been enlarged by an additional new deck and by a third plane of stay cables. In this context. new expansion joints for both abutments of the entire bridge as well as bearings for the new third cable plan have been instal-led. Concerning the expansion joints, the structural solutions for the lamellae, the cross bars as well as their connection and bearing are presented. The loadmo¬dels of the static and dynamic analysis in the German and Austrian standards have been compared to each other, and the check on fatigue has been particular¬ly mentioned. As for the bearings (cable saddle and drape point), the sliding elements have shown to be of extraordinary importance. Some new calculations following German standards are introduced.
