Abstract:
Ignoring the concrete contractor in the planning, specifications and other aspects of construction management can have expensive consequences for the owner and the engineer. Owners need to be made aware of the nature of concrete and the realistic expectations for final results. The potential for finishing problems is often ignored until it is to late to remedy them. Minimizing shrinkage, cracks, curl, and other concrete problems requires an early-on evaluation of the concrete's finishability, and close coordination with the contractor.
