Abstract:
Q. We are currently in the process of developing
a prequalified mixture design to meet the requirements
of ACI 349-13. 1 Section 3.6.6.2
of ACI 349-13 requires testing perASTM E204-98(2007),
“Standard Practices for Identification of Material by Infrared
Absorption Spectroscopy, Using the ASTM Coded Band and
Chemical Classification Index.” In the process of checking the
ASTM International website, we discovered that the standard
has been withdrawn. Is this specification still valid?
Q. I’m designing a building for an owner who has
asked for the concrete to comprise a cement
product that I have not specified on other projects.
According to the manufacturer of this product, it qualifies as
hydraulic cement and uses a non-portland, activated fly ash
system. Does the ACI 318 Code cover concrete with this
cement type? Does the Code include any qualifiers for
alternative cements with regard to reinforcing corrosion
resistance, bond strength, or anchorage provisions?
