Abstract:
A heavily corroded parking garage constructed in 1967 was so badly delaminated in 1987 that, without repairs, structural failure was likely within 5 years. The reinforced concrete structure had been designed as a two-way slab with mats of reinforcing steel in the top and bottom. The slab is 12 in. (300 mm) thick with columns 32 ft (9.7 m) on center, each way. The individual slab systems are 128 ft (39 m) square. The original specifications called for 3000 psi (21,000 kPa) concrete with 5 percent entrained air.
