Abstract:
Benaroya Hall is constructed amidst many constructional challenges – the Burlington Northern Railroad tunnel, the Metro Transit Station, and specific acoustical needs. Skilling Ward Magnusson Barkshire developed solutions to isolate the hall from these structures and develop a "premier, world-class symphony hall." Creative engineering solutions were employed such as inexpensive mass, seamless structural forms, flexibility of shape and speed of construction. This article chronicles the construction, from start to finish, of the hall including all of its challenges and triumphs.
