Abstract:
This article summarizes the main ideas behind the development of this synthetic fiber technology and describes some of the key testing programs in which it was evaluated in concrete and shotcrete against other reinforcing alternatives (steel fibers, welded wire mesh, and synthetic fibers).rofibers of steel in the same mixture were investigated. The macrofiber employed was a flattened-ends steel fiber with a length of 30 mm and a diameter of 0.7 mm. The micro-fiber used was a steel microfiber, 4.5 mm long and 80 microns in diameter. It was seen that the hybrid fiber composites were not only stronger in compression and flexure, but also depicted a greater energy absorption capability in flexure than those reinforced with only a macro-fiber. The newly developed hybrid composites were then applied at an on-going repair project on a parking garage in Vancouver.
