RETIRED Commercial/Industrial Flatwork Specialist - Surface Treatments


Definition:
A Commercial/Industrial Flatwork Specialist—Surface Treatments is a person who has demonstrated a basic knowledge of finishing procedures for Specialty Commercial/Industrial Concrete Flatwork Finishing, including high tolerance floor construction, application of surface treatments, silica fume concrete, and who has demonstrated skill in operating mechanized finishing equipment and in applying surface treatments in the process of finishing fresh concrete.


Scope and Knowledge:
The program requires knowledge of the following resource materials:

  • ACI 302.1R—Guide for Concrete Floor and Slab Construction
  • Silica Fume User’s Manual, Silica Fume Association


Certification Requirements:
ACI will grant certification only to those applicants who:

  1. Hold current certification as an ACI Specialty Commercial/Industrial Concrete Flatwork Finisher, AND
  2. Successfully complete the ACI performance examination for application of surface treatments.

During the performance examination each examinee must demonstrate skill in applying surface treatments in the finishing of fresh concrete.

Recertification is necessary every five years and requires successful completion of the certification requirements listed above.
