Abstract:

In this paper, the author reports on the 14 year's experiences in Japan wihth formaldehyde high condensate of beta-napthalene sulfonate (beta-NSFHC) which later became known as Mighty, since its commerical advent in 1964. The subjects described in this paper are as follows: 1) Brief history of the invention and the development. 2) Mechanism of dispersing cement particles by beta-NSFHC. 3)Production of high strength concrete by the use of beta-NSFHC. 4) Physical properties of high strength concrete thus produced. 5) Durability of concrete containing beta-NSFHC. 6) Biological safety. 7) Examples of the field practice of high strength and flowing concrete.

Abstract:

The trends in the rate of slump loss in superplasticized concrete due to the variation in temperature, concrete consistency, cement content and type, time of conventional admixtures in conjunction with the superplasticizer were determined.

Abstract:

Superplasticizers in the UK are not used extensively as routine admixtures but more in problem situations. The reasons for this are given. However, as a consquence, a number of relevant problem areas have come to light, for instance:-The time dependance of enhanced workability and the effect of aged concrete. Effect of cement type. Durability predictions of concrete containing superplasticiser. Inadequacy of standard workability tests. Mix design and consequential bleed. These aspects are discussed and taken in relation to case histories.

Abstract:

The main reasons for using superplasticizers in precast concrete are to improve the physical properties of either the fresh or hardened concrete, to faciliate the placement and compaction of concrete in intricate moulds, to obtain better finishes or to reduce the costs of these operations. The examples described in this paper illustrate the uses of superplasticizers for more than one of these reasons.

Abstract:

For the last few years, study and practice on superplasticized concrete have been conducted in order to reduce water content in high-slump concrete commonly used for building construction in Japan. This report discusses properties of superplasticized concrete containing naphthalene-sulphonate-formaldehyde consdensate superplasticizer and describes the state-of-art of superplasticized concrete in Japan.
