Nine undergraduate teams participated in the ACI Virtual Eco Concrete Competition that was hosted in the spring following the ACI Concrete Convention. The teams submitted their projects online via YouTube and the students took part in a live interview with volunteer judges on Zoom the week of May 19, 2025. The objective of the Eco Concrete Competition is to promote the idea of environmental performance in concrete mix designs. The event was sponsored by ACI Committee 130-G Education and ACI S801 Student Competitions Committee. The teams were asked to develop an innovative concrete mixture, which will have the lowest possible environmental impact while maintaining or improving durability performance. To achieve this goal, teams were encouraged to seek out and use local resources of eco-friendly materials such as supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs). After designing their concrete mixture, teams performed a simplified life-cycle assessment (LCA) then presented their results in a written report and recorded presentation. The first, second, and third-place winners of the competition will receive a cash prize of $1,500, $750, and $500 USD respectively. The cash prizes were sponsored by Holcim Mexico, ACI Central & Southern Mexico Chapter, and the ACI Student & Young Professional Activities Committee (SYPAC).
