The American Concrete Institute (ACI) recently dispersed $43,700 to eleven university teams selected to receive a travel stipend to attend The Concrete Convention and Exposition in Quebec City, QC, Canada March 24-28, 2019. ACI competition travel stipends provide financial assistance to students interested in competing in ACI competitions held twice a year. ACI welcomes an average of 500 students and more than 50 teams to each convention. This spring, the university teams will participate in the ACI Mortar Workability Competition and/or ACI Eco Concrete Competition. Travel stipends in an amount up to $5,000 were awarded to the following teams based on merit: Auburn University (USA) Dalhousie University (Canada) Kongu Engineering College (India) Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (USA) Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes (Mexico) Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas (Mexico) Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo (Mexico) University of Houston-Downtown (USA) Universidad San Francisco de Quito (Ecuador) University of the Philippines Diliman (Philippines) West Pomeranian University (Poland) The application period for the next travel stipends will be between April 1-June 30, 2019. Applicants will be required to select either the Fall 2019 FRP Composites Competition in Cincinnati, OH, USA, or the Spring 2020 FRC Bowling Ball Competition in Chicago/Rosemont, IL, USA, during the application process as well as provide evidence of previous participation in a regional concrete competition.
