Q. What is the importance of consolidation on strength? A. Consolidation is intended to minimize the amount and size of entrapped voids. Elimination of entrapped air voids results in an increase in strength. In adequately consolidated concrete, the amount of entrapped air is generally less than 2%. The strength is increased about 5% for each 1% of entrapped air that is removed during consolidation.
