Addition of lime in curing tanks

Q. Why is it important to add lime to water in curing tanks?

 

A. The reason for adding lime to the water is to prevent calcium carbonate from leaching out of the concrete as the cylinders are cured. The requirements can be found in the latest edition of ASTM C511.
