Description

This report presents ACI-ASCE Committee 426's suggested revisions to the shear provisions of Chapter 11 of " Building Code Requirements for Reinforced Concrete ( ACI 318-71)." While these recommendations are presented in a form and language similar to ACI 318-71, they have yet to be adopted by ACI committee 318 which is currently considering them. These recommendations are based on the understanding developed in the Committee 426's 1973 and 1974 state-of-the-art repots on shear. Major changes are suggested in provisions dealing with the shear carried by concrete in reinforced and prestressed beams, deep beams and corbels, and the provisions for slabs are made more comprehensive.

Keywords: beams (supports); brackets; building codes; concrete slabs; corbels; deep beams; footings; prestressed concrete; reinforced concrete; shear properties; shear strength; shear stress; stresses; structural design; structural engineering.
