Description

This course focuses on the evaluation of the condition and load-bearing capacity of existing anchor systems in concrete structures. Participants will learn how environmental factors, material deterioration, and loading history affect anchor performance. Special attention will be given to considerations such as cracked concrete, variations in resistance (R) and load effects (E), and their impact on safety and reliability. Both theoretical assessment methods using design equations and practical approaches involving load testing of anchors will be explored.

Table of Contents

Learning Objectives:

1. Identify key factors affecting the residual capacity of existing anchors, including environmental conditions, material deterioration, and load history.

2. Evaluate the impact of cracked concrete on anchor performance and apply appropriate capacity reduction factors.

3. Apply theoretical assessment methods using available approvals and design equations.

4. Understand how updated conditions and reliability analysis can influence partial safety factors and load assumptions.
