Abstract:
Describes field applications of the ultrasonic pulse velocity technique in testing concrete, using the portable V-meter. Effects of mix proportions, reinforcing bars, and voids are examined. Methods of assessing the uniformity of concrete and detecting voids or honeycombs are discussed. A semiempirical approach is proposed for estimating concrete strength from pulse velocity measurement. A process is also suggested to approximately assess the fire damage of concrete.*
