Abstract:
Reviews some of the past uses of horizontal joint reinforcement and indicates possible benefits if the reinforcement is used to replace grouted bond beams in reinforced masonry walls. New research work related to the efficiency of splices is reviewed and recommendations are made for splice lengths. A sam-ple design aid shows how this new information can be used in practice.*
