Abstract:
Reviews the placement of tremie concrete during the construction of a 278-ft deep cutoff wall through an earth-fill dam. The tremie concrete mixture and placement techniques are examined in detail in an attempt to discover the cause of zones of nonhomogeneous concrete found in a portion of the elements making up the wall. The findings are applicable not only to cutoff wall construction by tremie but also to all confined, deep tremie concrete placements*.
