Abstract:
Upper deck of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, restricted to light traffic (H-IO loading) is made of lightweight gravelite slab to reduce dead load. Design of slab aggregate specifications, construction methods, and service record after a year of operation are discussed. Cost of materials is recorded and absence of cracks noted.
