Abstract:
Hinges consisting of articulations of the Mesnager type, reinforced crossed bars at a narrow gap in a concrete member, were analyzed and tested to determine the relations between forces and deformations and the stresses in the bars. Formulas were developed for estimating the and deformations caused by rotations and by compressive and shearing forces. Seven speci- mens, some with the hinge bars encased in mortar were loaded to failure and their behavior compared with the calculated values.
