Abstract:
The purpose of this analytical study is to evaluate the flexural behavior under ultimate load of a cracked section reinforced with tensile reinforcement only. A graphical method is developed to evaluate the stresses and strains in the reinforcement for any shape stress-strain curve. It shown that the strain in the reinforcement under ultimate load is related to the concrete strength, the steel ratio, and the stress-strain curve of the reinforcement and not, as generally accepted to the steel strength only.
