Abstract:
The design of a highly economical precast and prestressed folded plate was carried out using a model. Emphasis was placed on the determination of the mosteconomical tie spacing and the overall performance of the unit. The model analysis was succeeded by a study of the behavior of a 7 ft wide and 46.67 ft long unit which was precast and post-tensioned. The performance of the post-tensioned unit was in close agreement with the behavior predicted by the plastic model, in particular the tie forces as established by the model compared favorably with the tie forces measured on the prototype.
