Abstract:Presents a method of calculating design pressures due to granular material in silos. It is based on recent experimental and theoretical work of numerous silo authorities and on the Soviet and German silo codes. The method considers the effect of dynamic overpressure exerted by material in motion and bv other pressure increasinq factors. The formulas #or calculation of the area of hoop reinforcement in circular concrete silos, based on the yield strength principle are also presented.
