Abstract:
Presented is a summary of work carried out on concrete masonry prism testing. A mechanism for the reduction in strength with increased prism heights is proposed naming the core profile as the most significant variable. This has enabled a rational choice for the minimum specimen size for the determination of the masonry characteristic compression strength. The properties of the filled masonry are compared with the similar properties of the individual elements in an attempt to optimize the combination.
