Abstract:
A model for the effective moment of inertia Ie as a substitute for Branson’s equation, which is part of the ACI and many other codes, is presented. As the model considers the effects of loading type and intensity as well as the reinforcement ratio, it is shown to be substantially more accurate than Branson’s equation. In addition, by integrating an approximation of the cracked moment of inertia Icr into the model, the detailed and lengthy calculation of Icr is eliminated and a simple graphical representation of the model is possible.
