Abstract:
Since the first prestressed concrete bridge was built in 1940’s, the prestressed concrete seemed to be maintenance-free structures at the early stage. However, tendon corrosion problems of prestressed concrete bridges have been reported in many countries including UK, France, and US. After the first Korean prestressed concrete bridge was built in 1962, the Korean structural engineers did not consider the tendon corrosion problems in practice for a long time until the first case was reported. In 2016, the first case of tendon corrosion fracture was found at one of the prestressed concrete bridges in the Seoul Inner Circle Highway. In the presentation, the first Korean practice to treat the tendon corrosion problems of prestressed concrete bridges will be discussed. And also, some recommendations for durability of PSC bridges will be presented.
