Abstract:
This paper presents important insights into the microstructure of the fresh cement based mortar and developed an original method for evaluation of water-retention capacity of the mortars based on 1H Low-field NMR. Influence parameters, such as cement types, types and amounts of water retention agents, on water-retention properties were investigated. Results showed that the water retention capacity can be clearly identified by comparing the T2 distribution before and after the traditional water-retention tests. Moreover, the paramagnetic substance may have impacts on the NMR effects of water insides the fresh mortars. The water retention property depicted by the proposed method is consistent with the conventional method (linearity up to 0.914). The results suggest that utilization of 1H Low-field NMR on water-migration mechanism is objective and accurate.
