Abstract:
The properties of mortar prepared using the molten slag from coal gasification as fine aggregate were studied, with the aim of effectively using coal gasification molten slag, a new waste product, in order to resolve the urgent need to find a source of aggregate for concrete in Japan, and also to promote the use of the Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) to enable high-efficiency power generation. The study found that this aggregate offered improved mortar properties such as fluidity, slightly lower compressive strength and bending strength, and a reduced drying shrinkage as compared to mortar prepared using natural aggregate, indicating the possibility that molten slag from coal gasification can be used as fine aggregate.
