Abstract:
Final civil work have been recently completed, at Algeciras Bay, for a large Gravity Based Structure (GBS), weighing in excess of 280,000 tons which, once equipped with regasification facilities, accommodation quaters for operation and maintenance personnel, accesses, etc, shall be towed and ballasted at a location several kilometres off the coast of Venice. The entire assembly consists of a prototype, incorporating a high degree of technological innovation and advanced construction methods, to build, in a dry dock, storage and regasification facilities, with a capacity of 250,000 m3 of liquefied natural gas (LNG), and a processing and supplying capacity in excess of 1.1 millions of m3/hour. This gives rise to an interesting proposition that allows us to install, off-shore, this industrial complex and start the distribution of natural gas, through a network of gas pipelines, with very little onshore impact.
