Abstract:
The main features of the bridge over the Pontevedra Estuary in the Atlantic motorway are shown. The whole bridge made of prestressed concrete is 700 m long and its divided into three different parts by half-joints. The intermediate one has two main spans 120 m long with a variable depth box girder. The side spans are 40 m long with a constant depth box girder. A detailed description of the design process and its construction follows. The main spans have been built by the free cantilever system with a provisional cablestayed system in the final stages.
